I would rather lead than follow because when you’re last in line, there’s no one to watch your back, and I would rather look ahead, because pure and new things are miraculous sights, and you can’t say everything has been done before, because there are babies being born every second, and they’re taking their first breaths, and it’s their very first, never done before in that body in any other moment in time, and it may not mean a thing to you but it means everything to a mother who cries in fear that her child won’t make it. and we collapse inward all of the time for fear of spreading ourselves outward and actually letting someone love us, and we cough and cough and cry and hope to god that someone will save us from ourselves, but we burn bridges and build up walls of granite and limestone so that our savior cannot burst in and make something out of us. We fear our potential, we thrive on denial, and not just the river.
